The East London International Games site for everything that you will need to know about visiting London in 2012. This is my historical version of the Olympics Zone walk by Newham; this is to complement their excellent work.

We start with Stratford & Hackney area in 1854 - things do not change much; apart from the people running things. The map shows Old Ford area at top left, Stratford station at top right, moving down the map we have the East London Water Works and reservoirs, which are just above the Eastern Counties railway lines cutting from West to east (or vice versa); and finally below this we have Bow and West Ham. At the bottom of the picture is the Four Mills area where the famous 'Abbey Mills Pumping station' exists. This was the Victorian built pumping station to get the effluent out of London (built in the 1860's). Back to the map, clearly are shown the Green Man, Bow Road [which leads in to  the Stratford High Street as we head north west] and White Swan - on the right of the map. I am slowly adding links from the map, most do not work at present. there are 176 separate links from this map.

Next page is in 1900 & a visit in 2006 is here

And the same image from the Newham Olympic Tour - this image is better.

Live web cam from the Stratford Games site as they prepare for 2012 - I am sure this will improve.
