International Games 2012 local history and maps of Hackney, Stratford, Bow, Bromley etc

This page is a little large, but it allows  you to see the map clearly, with nearly 200 links from the map once they are added.

The East London International Games site for everything that you will need to know about visiting London in 2012. This is my historical version of the Olympics Zone walk by Newham; this is to complement their excellent work.

This next page is Stratford & Hackney area in 1900 (Baedeker) - again the area does not change much. The map shows the Homerton area of Hackney at top left, and Stratford station at top right; moving down the map we have Hackney Wick just above the  railway lines cutting from West to east (or vice versa), and Hackney to the left; and  below this we have Victoria park.  Moving down the map, is Old Ford, with Stratford to the right of this, and West Ham creeping in near the bottom right area.

The Abbey Mills pumping station can be seen in square 72, with the outline of the sewers running North West through the number 67 on the mapping. Moving the mouse over the map will show lots of clearer information, and will eventually be linked to meaningful links; . there are 176 separate links from this map.

London and its environs - Baedeker.

And the same image from the Newham Olympic Tour - this image is better.

Live web cam from the Stratford Games site as they prepare for 2012 - I am sure this will improve.

I recommend opening a map from TFL (Travel for London) - [North East] -  to get a good idea of the travel routes in and around this area / London - this includes tube maps, bus routes etc, and is worth saving a copy - I cannot print it for copyright reasons. But, travel  in London has improved significantly since Ken Livingstone became the Mayor of London; with free bus travel for under 16s, and the same on the London Underground (Tube) for under 11s with a fee paying adult.

I recommend purchasing an oyster card, if you are able - they only cost £3 and can be purchased online from TFL.
