As of 1st September, 2006 - children under the age of 18 travel free on London buses, although you will need a Travel card available from Post Offices for all who are 14 and above - this costs about £5.

Live web cam from the Stratford Games site as they prepare for 2012 - I am sure this will improve.

A high-speed International games Javelin shuttle service will  run on the new Channel Tunnel Rail Link railway line.

The main International games village will be sited in Stratford, East London; an excellent site to choose. This will involve massive regeneration of this area in the East of London, plus extensive sporting facilities and a great deal for our youngsters, and our coming generations.

Stratford Broadway, 1907

To get a feel for the layout of the new International games villages, take a look at the International games Zone Map which shows the proximity to Stratford International, 'Tube' and British Rail systems.

Stratford Station, London, UK

Stratford Station hosts many important links, including the Eurostar terminal linked to France and Belgium, a British Rail system on the Liverpool Street - Essex line, plus direct connections into the London Underground (the red central line). Stratford is also directly linked by the Jubilee Tube line to the Millenium Dome. Get a copy of the London Tube map here , and a simplified Tube / British rail map here. The frequency of trains arriving at the International games park will be every 13 seconds, that is 240 trains an hour.

The Tube and rail network, serving the Park and the wider entire International games city, will remain open until 2.30am every day during the Games, and will also operate for 24 hours on the days of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

All of the public transport facilities serving the International games Park will be accessible to wheelchair users.

And the entire Docklands Light Railway network and all of London's 21,000 licensed black cabs are already accessible to wheelchair users, as will every London bus by 2008.

Web cams of central London.

Here you can view live web cams of Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden , the London Wheel and Big Ben. Brilliant

View from the top of BBC television centre over West London; or a 360 degree cam from London Bridge ; or the 360 degree perspective from Tower Bridge - and the best birds eye view from Westminster Bridge.

Why visit the London Eye, when you can view the vista from home? And lastly outside Buckingham Palace.

Flights

Heathrow Airport- Any long haul flights will arrive at Heathrow, West of London. there is a direct train link (the Heathrow express) that connects with Paddington in 15 minutes, or via the slower Picadilly Line to central London. I personally would use a cab, a trip to my home is about £75 for up to four persons. Contact a minicab firm for quotes in advance, don't use the Black cabs, they are expensive. Add £5 for Terminal Four.

Gatwick Express

GatwickAirport, South of the London capital, and connected to London Victoria via the Gatwick Express. Victoria is on the Victoria, District & Circle lines. Again, contact the minicab firms for a quote in advance.

London city airport, in Beckton, East London - this will have a direct British Rail link to Stratford via the Docklands Light Railway extension which will open on 15 December 2005; and is on schedule.

The nearest underground station is Canning Town on the Jubilee line, July 2005. The Airport is then a 10 minute Shuttlebus journey.

Road Travel

The capital city, London is circled by the M25 motorway. This is a 3/4 lane highway which is free to use, excepting a small charge at the Thames Dartford River Crossing. The M25 is a very busy highway, better known as a car park for the speed it moves in rush hour times,  and therefore best used outside the peak rush hours. Even  in quiet periods, any road works or accidents bring the transport system on the M25 to a halt.

Any major travel across London is best made in the early hours of the morning - that's what I do.

Radiating out from the M25 are the M4 which passes Heathrow Airport; and connects to Wales and the West; the M1 which passes Luton Airport and continues North; the M3 which runs South past the Gatwick Airport and the M2/M20 which link to the southern ports and the Eurotunnel Terminal at Ashford.

Travel by car into many inner city London boroughs incurs a daily charge of £8 if paid in advance or on the day, BUT not recommended. Use the Rail system, in London, thanks to Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) and TFL the service is good value and generally an excellent service.

Travel cards

You can get a cheap day return [off peak ] on the London Underground and buses, for about £6 ($10) - prices in 2006. This operates after 10 a.m. ; and remember that Tube Trains do not run all through the night, but there are  a range of night buses in and around the capital. I would recommend visiting TFL and getting a prepaid Oyster Card - they will save you a fortune in Travel fares in London on the buses and London Underground.

As of 1st September, 2006 - children under the age of 18 travel free on London buses, although you will need a proof of age Travel card available from Post Offices - cost about £5.
